Vinyl Siding Repair
We do not install vinyl siding for the reasons described below. However, we can repair vinyl siding in some situations. Give us a call and let us know what issues you are having with your siding.
Why Should You Avoid Vinyl Siding?
Vinyl siding is petroleum-based and has a shorter lifespan than James Hardie siding, which is enough for many in the Portland Metro area to say “no thanks!”
Thermal Expansion Is A Problem With Vinyl
There is an important characteristic of vinyl that makes it a poor choice for your home: thermal expansion.
Thermal expansion is when the siding changes shape, area and volume in response to changes in temperature. Vinyl has one of the worst thermal expansion rates of any siding material on the market today. While Hardie® Plank siding has a similar lifespan to brick, vinyl is prone to warping and even melting when exposed to direct sunlight at extreme temperatures.
And, it gets worse! The expansion and contraction that occurs with vinyl, especially here in Oregon with our hot summers and cold wet winters, is so severe that you cannot screw in vinyl siding for a tight seal. You must “hang” the siding on screws, through an expansion eyelet so that the siding can move.

While Jame’s Hardie’s Hardie® Plank siding is actually nailed in for a seamless, watertight seal. Hanging vinyl, creates opportunities for water to seep in behind your siding and cause dry rot, mold and mildew. This lack of a waterproof seal also gives bugs and pests an opening to live between the siding and the exterior wall of your home!
The fact is vinyl fails quickly in the Pacific Northwest. We been around long enough to see the damage it can cause, and for this reason, we do not perform any vinyl installation but we can do repairs in some cases.
